1 Samuel 3:3-10 .19; 1 Corinthians 6:13-15 .17-20; John 1:35-42 MEDITATION
The readings this Sunday are about how God calls us to seek Him and to help others in their search.
Some may complain that the Good News of our faith was never clearly delivered to them, but did we ever put ourselves out to really seek it? Peter and company ask Jesus "where do you live?". That was a long time ago in Galilee , but the truth is that we can enjoy the very real company of Christ now. We can live with Him - ask Him in to live with us – in us. His Word is alive. He is the Word that became flesh (John 1:14 ). He's still very much alive. When you begin to give some time and attention to the Bible, and meditate what it has to do with your life from Monday to Friday and for the next ninety years, then it does actually inspire a lot. It's got a lot to do with what's going to happen after those ninety years! It's not in a newspaper or on the T.V.. That's not how Love wins hearts.
2 Sam 7:1-5 .8-12.14.16; Rom 16:25-27 ; Luke 1:26-38 MEDITATION:
This will be the last Sunday of Advent. It tells of God choosing Mary to be his dwelling.
She was poor and humble, from an unimportant village called Nazareth, and she didn't have any luxurious hospital in which to give birth! But that simple manger of Nazareth is what God wanted. Today, he wants to be born in us. King David thought that it would be necessary to build a luxurious home for the Ark (the ark of the covenant symbolized the presence of God for them). He felt ashamed of his fine palace while the Ark was in a store-room. But he received the answer that God wants to form a special house! That will be for the incarnation of Christ. The marvel is that God chooses a simple girl like Mary. The marvel today is that He chooses us! He yearns to see us end up being like her, so that Christ be born in us. Then Christmas can really come.

I'm a 43 year old guy from Dublin (born 1967) who became a missionary priest in 1995 with the Verbum Dei community. I'm actually a qualified doctor, but I've had multiple sclerosis since 1998. I can't play the guitar or sport anymore (not that I could much before anyway!), but at least I can tap a keyboard, and I suppose that it wouldn't do any harm to tap a few words to yourselves this autumn.
